Michigan fans are thanking Ohio State today

Why in the world would Michigan fans be thanking Ohio State (of all people) today? Two words...Trey Burke! Michigan basketball took a huge step toward national prominence with an impressive win over arch rival and 6th ranked Ohio State last night. The win keeps the Wolverines alive for their first Big Ten title in over 25 years. Not only did freshman point guard sensation Trey Burke lead the way with 17 points and 5 assists, he slammed the door on the Buckeyes with two clutch shots in the closing minutes. Did I mention that Burke is a Columbus Ohio native, and is only playing for Michigan because Ohio State chose someone else? I'm pretty sure the words "Thanks Ohio State" can be heard bellowing throughout Ann Arbor this morning.

And the timing could not have been better for Michigan, who lost their best player in point guard Darius Morris last year. Morris was a leader, floor general, and clutch scorer. I though the Wolverines would take a step back this year with no viable replacement for Morris returning from last year's squad. Boy was I wrong. Not only is Burke just as talented, he has this mental toughness about him...and it's infected the entire team. The Wolverines are better this year, and the point guard play has been the reason. As I watched the closing minutes of last night's thriller...I wondered what the outcome would've been if Ohio State had Burke last night. The thought was more than horrifying.....thank you...Ohio State! follow @plcolter
